Moone Tsai 2022 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Tasting notes
Deeply garnet to the eye, the 2022 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon offers a study in contrasts; pretty and fawn-like at the outset, only to reveal deeper undercurrents of purpose and complexity. The nose pointedly offers black fruit accented by hints of sandalwood and cedar shavings. On the attack, black plum and black cherry arrive center stage, accompanied by pirouettes of dried cranberries, baking spice and tamarind. Aged 20 months in 70% new French oak the wine is fetchingly framed to demonstrate a delicately balanced structure characterized by smooth sinewy tannins, medium + acidity and pleasing palate weight. Fetchingly approachable, but decorous and direct, the wine demonstrates a disarming duality to give one pause. Recalling Edward Degas’ alluring Impressionist (vs. Modernist) masterpiece, L’Etoile (The Star), we can’t help but enjoy what happens betwixt and between.
